These days podcasts are the way to go for many people when it comes to learning. Coming from a music background, some of my high priorities for podcasts are the production, voice quality and content.
You could have the most amazing content, but if the sound is bad, it’s going to be a terrible time to listen to. Much in the same way that a badly designed website will turn away even the most motivated user.
Here are some podcasts on SEO out there from the top ranking Spotify search. Ratings are on listenability (production quality while listening on phone speaker and bluetooth earbuds), voice quality (accent, clarity) and content (from a beginner perspective).
Please note that these are subjective opinions of my own and you may have a strong differing opinion.
SEO Podcast by Chris Palmer SEO Educational
- Average episode length: 2 minutes – 1 hour
- Voice quality: 6/10 American accent, fast, energetic
- Content: 5/10 Educational, however the audio references videos so it feels like you are missing some of the information
- Listenability: 5/10 – tinny sound quality, keyboard sounds
Overall rating 16/30
Beginners SEO Podcast by Phoebe, The Plan Success
- Average episode length: 15 -22 minutes
- Voice quality: 8/10 British accent, nasal, good pace
- Content: 8/10 Clear for beginners
- Listenability: 4/10 – tinny sound quality, some poor quality sound edits
Overall rating 20/30
Imperfect Action by Steph Taylor
- Average episode length: 10-40 minutes
- Voice quality: 8/10 Australian accent, a little fast but simple language
- Content: 6/10 More targeted at small business owners and as it’s a Hubspot podcast, it promos Hubspot as a product. Very simple introduction to absolute SEO business beginners
- Listenability: 7/10 Well produced, background music in some sections and to break up content. Does feature ads in the middle

How the Fxck SEO by Ben Goodey Marketing
- Average episode length: 21 minutes – 1 hour
- Voice quality: British, well paced
- Content: 7/10 Interview style, conversational discussion with SEO experts
- Listenability: Well produced, short music interludes to break up sections, sometimes these are not well balanced for volume. Does features ads for premium tier

The Recipe For SEO Success by Kate Toon SEO Educator
- Average episode length: 22 – 45 minutes
- Voice quality: British, reminiscent of a Great British Bake Off Host
- Content: Each episode is classified by (NEWBIE) (TOON TIP) (RANT) (LEARN) (TECHIE), which is handy to navigate. Interview style with guest speaker
- Listenability: Every so slightly tinny, but generally well produced. Very well scripted. Slight musical interludes between content
